Office equipment has a quite relevant share of the energy consumption in office buildings – and ranges commonly between 20 – 40 %. On the other hand savings about 40 up to 50 % are economical feasible and will reduce the energy costs about 200 € per workplace. The full energy saving potentials can be achieved only by reducing the power consumption in every mode (operating, standby/sleep and off mode) and decreasing the total hours of the mode with higher power consumption or the total operating hours. Thus, the procurement of energy efficient office equipment as well as energy efficient use of existing equipment is necessary.
A GB Partner should identify applicable energy savings measures by establishing an inventory of the office equipment and major operating parameters. An assessment should be carried out which will identify the measures which are applicable to the IT system, and will include an estimate of the savings, the cost of the measure, as well as the payback time. An Action Plan for office equipment should be set up, presented to the Commission, and will result in a GB Partnership.
